The VTSU Castleton Soundings Program in Partnership with the Vermont Humanities Speakers Bureau presents "Vermont Sampler Stories", a lecture by Michele Pagan. This presentation is based on the research Michele Pagan has done into the Revolutionary War ancestors of the girls who made 19th century schoolgirl samplers. Needlework samplers are a visual record of the values that guided early female education in Vermont, including its focus on needlework as an essential skill for all girls and women. As artifacts of female education, they provide insight into family dynamics, local history, and community values.
This lecture will end by 1:50 PM to ensure that students can attend their 2:00 PM classes.
Advanced signup is REQUIRED for Soundings students. Non-Soundings students and community members are encouraged to sign up as well. This event is free and open to the public. Sign up here: https://VermontStateColleges.formstack.com/forms/vermont_sampler_stories
